Our recent activities have been inspiring. We continue to see lives changed and hearts transformed through the work we do.

DELIVERING DONATIONS to Asheville, NC (2025, January 25th):
During our Stuff the Drums event last year, we set aside a portion of the donations for residents of Asheville, NC. Asheville was devasted by historic flooding and wind damage from Hurricane Helene which struck this mountainous region of the state in September 2024. We had the pleasure of connecting with the Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the Shiloh region of Asheville and met their Pastor, Rev. Spencer Hardaway. Rock Hill Baptist has been a focal point for donations as the residents try to rebuild their lives after this disaster. Pastor Hardaway was grateful for the donations and pledged to put them to good use. It was also a joy to welcome our brothers from St. Paul Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC who drove down to fellowship and help us offload the U-Haul truck.

STUFF THE DRUMS FOR HAITI AND LIBERIA (2024, October 21st):
Since 2021 JJS Missions has partnered with the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, along with other churches and organizations to collect donations to benefit Haiti and Liberia. We are encouraged by the outpouring of donations and our partners who collected them, as well as the volunteers who came out to sort and pack them. With the support of churches and organizations like the Alfred Street Baptist Church (Alexandria, VA), Portsmouth (VA) and Prince Georges County (MD) Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta, First Baptist Church of Hampton (VA), Grace United Methodist Church (Fort Washington, MD), Shiloh Baptist Church (Largo, MD), we collected and packed more than 8,000 pounds of donated items this year. The beneficiaries are very thankful for the continued effort and support. Our recent activities have been inspiring. We continue to see lives changed and hearts transformed through the work we do.
MISSION TO HAITI (2024, September 18-22):
Vernon had the pleasure of traveling to the Foundation Guillaume in Plaisance Du Sud, Haiti in September to speak with the young people there about the importance of education as they looked forward to the start of the school year on October 1st. It had been 9 months since he traveled to Haiti and the young people were happy to see him and spend time with him. During his visit he spent quality time at the various orphanages and even delivered words of encouragement at the Grace Christian Church during their Sunday morning service. Blessed by personal donations of friends, and the continued support of sponsors, JJS Mission was able to purchase food to feed more than 60 families for the week.

JUDEA OUTREACH - Kids Against Hunger Food Packing (February 15th):
A community resource counselor at Glasgow Middle School in Fairfax County, Virginia was seeking a way for her students to participate in a philanthropic project. She explained that students at her Title One school struggled to achieve their required 40–hours of Student Service Learning (SSL volunteering) because there were not many opportunities to do so in their community. Her idea was to bring a volunteer opportunity to the school. After some collaboration, she asked to partner with JJS Missions through their Judea Outreach, to bring the Lott Carey-Kids Against Hunger program at Glasgow. About 200 eighth and nineth-graders joined the 15 JJS Missions volunteers to package 20,200 meals which were sent to a mission Liberia, West Africa. The project was a rousing success and the students are looking forward to participating in a similar project in the coming year.
Kids Against Hunger (KAH) is a non-profit humanitarian organization with a mission to provide fully nutritious food to impoverished children and families around the world…and around the corner. The goal of the organization is for the meals to provide a stable nutritional base from which recipient families can move their families from starvation or food insecurity to self-sufficiency. This is achieved by bringing together volunteers to package hydratable meals consisting of rice, soy, dried vegetables, and protein powder. These meal packages can be boiled in water to provide a tasty and nutrient-rich meal for a family of six.
Established in 1897, the Lott Carey Foreign Missions Organization (Lott Carey) is a multicultural, ecumenical, global Christian mission community, offering prayer, financial backing, and technical support to local communities worldwide, united over shared values and goals to forge a better world. In concert, we extend life-altering love. As an extension of its mission, Lott Carey became a local KAH hub in 2017 to unite with their compassionate partners who can join together in alleviating hunger and advocating for the poor.
